Job Title: Mowing Department Manager
**To successfully apply for this job, you MUST follow the instructions at the end of this listing. This is a full time position based out of our Lincoln, NE office location.**
Who is Summit Lawns?
The lawn care and landscaping industry as a general collective has a smudge on it. Riddled with unprofessionalism, grimy and dirty dudes, rusty trucks, unmet expectations, and poor customer experiences. Sounds pretty lame, right?
At Summit Lawns, our purpose is to revolutionize the lawn care industry for modern day ease, and leave a positive impact on all who encounter this company. We’re on a mission to build a new generation of lawn care. You can have a gorgeous yard that you’re not embarrassed of, with Chick-Fil-A level customer service. We make lawn care sexy and cool through technology, casual/fun/innovative interactions with our clients, and frankly having pride in our appearances. We’re the highest rated lawn care company in the history of Lincoln (and soon to be the entire state of Nebraska), and we’re on a journey to build Nebraska’s largest and most impactful lawn care company.
Through a few passion projects, we’re significantly impacting our communities. Check it out:
Random Acts of Clean Up - We revitalize and clean up overgrown homes and landscapes at no cost to the resident.
Snow Angels - we provide free snow removal all winter long for neighbors in need
It’s kind of cool to have a job that’s so wildly visual and so intensely appreciated when done well.
On top of that, we’re creating sustainable jobs and employment in a broken, old fashioned industry. We’re changing the game for our team members and what it means to work at a lawn care company.
10 years ago, we were nobody. We didn’t exist. Since that time, we’ve grown to be the largest lawn care company in Lincoln, and now our sights are set much further. We’re building something big, something that positively impacts every community we enter.
Our mission matters now, more than ever. And that’s why we need YOU!
A leader who is obsessed with efficiency, quality, and coaching up team members. A leader who can organize an operation towards a big goal. What you do MATTERS!
So where do you fit in??
Overview:
As our Mowing Department Manager, you are the captain of the entire mowing division of Summit Lawns. You will lead anywhere from 8-12 mowing crews to meet efficiency, quality, and safety goals every day,
while upholding our core values and a positive atmosphere.
Summit Lawns is built on servant leadership: our leaders prioritize the team's needs, stepping into any role—whether it’s scrubbing toilets or being the trimmer guy for a mow team—to support our staff when
needed. While leaders aren’t expected to always be in the field, their willingness to get in the trenches has a profound impact on building trust and respect from their teams, and boosts morale immeasurably on tough days—which we value deeply.
The Mowing Department Manager has 3 main objectives:
1. Drive an Efficient Production
● Meet or exceed labor efficiency goals for the entire mowing department
● Create efficient routes for all mowing teams that meet daily revenue and production goals
● Review prior day's job data for accuracy and prep for billing and payroll
● Appropriately staff mowing teams daily to ensure all scheduled jobs are completed
● Work with account managers and subcontractors to communicate, schedule, and manage all subcontractor and client needs
● Work with production teams on snow removal operations during the winter months
2. Promote Culture, Training, and Safety
● Be a champion promoter of company culture and core values, maintaining a positive and motivated team
● Own team communication, conducting weekly team meetings and ensuring all team members are up to speed throughout the week.
● Provide infield training to new hires and recurring training to all team members
● Identify staffing needs for your department and participate in the interview and hiring process alongside Summit Lawns’ recruiting team
● Conduct corrective action and disciplinary measures as needed per Summit Lawns Handbook.
3. Equipment Maintenance and Industry Compliance
● Keep your work spaces organized, clean, and ready for clients and recruits to visit at any time
● Ensure basic maintenance and cleaning is performed on schedule for all mowing equipment and vehicles
● Work with our Operations Coordinator as they manage equipment repairs.
Ultimately, your job is to Keep Mowing Flowing! Help us build and maintain a stable, highly efficient mowing operation with excellent quality. To be successful in your role, you’ll have an entire team working alongside you with recruiting, equipment repairs, and leadership that supports you when you hit roadblocks.
What You’ll Bring:
● A team mentality. No one gets left behind here, we’re serious about helping each other
● A willingness to own issues and help solve them, even if they aren’t your fault
● Patience and the ability to remain even keeled in a variety of situations
● Positive energy!
● A genuine desire to learn, improve, and do your best in everything you do, every day
● Emotional intelligence and the ability to read between the lines and understand what your crews need
● Comfortable managing several competing tasks. We keep things moving quickly!
● Attention to detail, organizational skills, and excellent time management skills
What We Offer You!
● Top of the industry pay. Check out the compensation package below.
● An incredible work culture. Seriously, see the videos on our website.
● Don’t go hungry. We have a fully stocked kitchen, filled with anything you want, on our dime. Whatever you want us to stock, we’ll buy. You literally don’t have to eat breakfast at home if you don’t want to. Ask and you shall receive.
● Investment in you. We pay for ongoing education, growth opportunities, and take you to conferences.
● No scheduled weekends. We haven’t scheduled work on weekends in YEARS. You have a life outside of work. Go live it.
● Winter relief. Yes, we put those two words together. Although we do snow removal, work volume drops dramatically in the winter, and we’re able to slow down, catch our breath, and work on internal projects. It’s a really nice decompression period!
● Weekly pay. Biweekly paychecks suck. Getting paid every Friday rules.
● Flexible work schedules. As long as you coordinate in advance that you want to be gone, we pretty much tell you to go for it 99.999% of the time.
